Creating an Account
You don't strictly need an account to receive a credential — anyone with the verification link can already see it. But creating an account lets you:
- Claim credentials so they're permanently linked to you.
- Build a public profile at
/u/your-slugshowcasing all your credentials. - Import Open Badges 3.0 credentials you've earned on other platforms.
- Export your wallet as a Verifiable Presentation (VP).
- Go to credentials.certdirectory.io/register.
- Choose either:
- Email + password — enter your first name, last name, email, and a password (must include upper & lower case, a number, and a symbol; minimum length enforced).
- Continue with Google — uses your Google account; email is auto-verified.
- If you signed up with email, you'll receive a verification email. Click the link to activate your account, then return and sign in.
If you don't see the verification email
Check spam, then use Resend verification on the login screen — you can do this 3 times every 15 minutes per email.
- Email + password, or Continue with Google.
- If you try to sign in before verifying your email, you'll get a clear
EMAIL_NOT_VERIFIEDmessage with a link to resend the verification email.
After signing in
You're taken to your Dashboard at /dashboard, which shows:
- Pending credentials — credentials issued to your email that you haven't claimed yet.
- Your credentials — credentials you've claimed.
- Organizations — orgs you own or are a member of (if any).
- Invitations — pending invitations to join other organizations.
Why claim credentials?
When a credential is issued to your email, it's already publicly verifiable. Claiming it (see Claiming a Credential) does two things:
- Permanently links it to your user account, so it appears in your dashboard and on your public profile.
- Lets you decide whether to display it on your public profile.
